DENSO: Design a merch bag
PROJECT: Developing the DENSO Superheroes was a marketing team collaboration with my teammate, designer Renette Heaslet, leading the way. She created the first four characters and, using her illustrative style, I was able to create the remaining characters.
When it came to flushing out the backstory I reached out to copywriter and master storyteller Paul Wilcox who flushed out the story of the Superheroes. It goes like this:
"The DENSO Parts Patrol
Long ago, leaders on the Planet DENSONIA learned that evil forces were tricking car and truck drivers on Earth into buying inferior auto parts. Alarmed, the leaders launched an invisiable spaceship filled with DENSO superheroes to save Earthlings from cheap, second-rate parts and the problems they cause.
Together, The Patrol battle evil forces bend on flooding the market with low-grade parts. Our brave crusaders fight to eliminate substandard, look-alike products. Drivers are saved from the perils of poor performance, technicians are spared from poor-fitting parts, and retailers are protected from boomeranging parts returns."
The Superheroes enjoyed a long run and were featured in many projects over several years.
